A tranquil setting
Come and enjoy our breathtaking panorama of Cathkin Peak and Champagne Castle forming part of the Drakensberg mountain range. River Crossing is an oasis of peace situated on 50 acres of farmland, bordered by the Mtoti River where you can enjoy our river walk. There is a tar road right up to our farm. We have 10 stylish and romantic bedrooms, all en-suite, sleeping 20. There are 4 x 2 bedroom self-catering suites and 2 x en-suite bedrooms with private entrances in the management villa. Get active!
We are surrounded by 2 delightful valleys, teeming with adventure sports and other diverse activities for all tastes and ages. Put on your hiking boots, or don your helmet for cycling, horse riding, or quad biking! Harness up for a tree top canopy tour or fly over this stunning World Heritage Site in a helicopter, hot air balloon, microlight or glider.
Wildlife and sports
Keep your binoculars close at hand to view birds with over 100 species being identified at River Crossing with many other varieties spotted in the area. On our property you may view our resident Reedbuck, Large grey mongoose, Duiker, Porcupine, Jackals, and other interesting fauna, not forgetting the delightful wild flowers which peak their display in October. Line up that fishing rod and test the waters in our rivers or Bell Park Dam and other nearby places where you can fish as a day visitor.
Very importantly, do not forget your Golf clubs so that you can T-off at any of 2 nearby courses with awesome views, only 7 or 15 minutes drive from us respectively, or even at Cathedral Peak, 60 minutes away.
Conferences and weddings
For the cost conscious conference delegate, we offer accommodation at reasonable rates whilst attending conferences at Champagne Sports or other nearby resorts in the area.
Various functions are held at River Crossing, see weddings and functions, with guests arranging outside caterers and hiring marquees if they need more covered space than our Lapa, which can seat 70, offers. We can put you in touch with wedding / conference / function co-ordinators where required.
Honeymooners are regulars and have expressed pleasure at the lovely self-cater suites (one with large Victorian bath) where they feel quite secluded in their peaceful haven.
Experience our diverse culture
Thrill to the choral excellence of the world famous Drakensberg Boys choir or put on your history hat and visit the nearby battlefields renown for the Battle of Spioenkop and visit the Siege Museum at Ladysmith.
Visit the various Koi San rock art sites in the Champagne Valley or at Didima near Cathedral Peak.
