Nearby Activities - River Crossing Berg Accommodation
Our delightful lodge is conveniently located in the Central Drakensberg with amazing views of Champagne Castle and Cathkin Peak, set in the picturesque Champagne Valley, where many tourist activities can be found. These are for your own account. Please book directly with the various service providers. Take note that some of these activities are weather dependent. These are some of the activities you can consider but please bear in mind that changing Covid regulations may impact on these so please first call service providers to establish if currently operational:
Maloti Ezemvelo Nature Reserve (previously Monk's Cowl)
It takes about 15 minutes to drive from River Crossing to the Maloti Reserve, located at the base of the Drakensberg Mountains. The reserve is administered by the South African Parks Board. At the Kiosk in the reserve you can obtain a booklet of the various walks on offer, which advise on the degree of difficulty and the time taken to complete the hikes which range from around 2 to 8 hours.
Falcon Ridge - Open Air Raptor Display
They conduct a very interesting and educational bird display which is held on most mornings bar Fridays and Mondays at 10.30am, weather permitting. This is about a 15-minute drive from River Crossing Berg Accommodation. Remember to take sun-block and sunhats. Contact Falcon Ridge on 082 774 6398.
Blue Grotto hike
Delightful hike which has lots of shade with streams along the 3- hour duration. Your reward is a beautiful waterfall. Starting at Drakensburg Sun Hotel, which is about 13 Km from River Crossing. Phone Drakensberg Sun 036 468 1000 for more information.
Fishing
Various options are available for fishing enthusiasts including either the Sterkspruit or Mtoti rivers which border our farm, or you may visit the dams at Bell Park Dam, the Drakensberg Sun or the facility at Dragon Peaks where daily rates are charged. There is also the Injasuti, Tugela or Mlambonja river near Cathedral Peak which are all around 1 hour drive from River Crossing Berg Accommodation.
Helicopter Flips
Helicopter flips may be arranged at Dragon Peaks, about 13 minutes from River Crossing, where you can fly to the mountain where you will have an opportunity to sip Champagne and take in the views. Book at 083 652 7493. Alternative number 082 656 1261.
Spionkop Safaris
Spionkop nature reserve is about a half hour drive from River Crossing. Check availability 036 488 1578. Drive amongst Rhino, Zebra. Giraffe etc. Approx 35 min drive from River Crossing Berg Accommodation.
4 Rivers Adventures
Quad biking, archery, rafting, zip-lining and other adventure sports close-by at 4 Rivers Rafting – Jackie Fourie 083 785 1693. About 7 minutes away from River Crossing Berg Accommodation.
